Providing complete traceability of wind turbine installations with DIAP

ENABL A/S has introduced DIAP to their client who is now collecting data on how the installation of the wind turbine’s main components has proceeded. The data ensures complete traceability of the installation process and plays an important part in the documentation of the process.

The challenge

Installing a wind turbine can be a complex process with large forces involved. Parameters such as wind speed and load placed on the components during installation can impact the subsequent performance of the wind turbine significantly.

It is therefore important for the company to be able to document the installation process and demonstrate to customers and authorities that the installation has been performed within all specified limits.

The solution

In cooperation with ENABL A/S who supplies some of the installation equipment used by the client, DIAP has been made an integrated part of the equipment used for lifting nacelles, towers, and blades.

DIAP collects data directly from the control system of the equipment and makes it possible for the client to ensure complete traceability of the installation process.

Using the collected data, the ENABL’s client is able to document important parameters, such as:

– Installation order of the components.
– Load placed on the components.
– Wind speed during installation.
– Tension on the winches.
– System mode of the equipment.
– Operator performance.

DIAP sends the collected data to a secure cloud storage from where it is easily accessible by means of the DIAP software. As many turbine installations take place offshore where internet connections are unavailable, the client always makes sure to have an access point available on the installation vessel. In this way, data is always accessible – even far from shore.

Future perspectives

For the client, collection and analysis of installation data holds great potential. Together with ENABL and DIAP, the company is currently looking into the option of using the DIAP OEE application to compare their installation processes and to detect the reasons for errors during the installation process.

With DIAP, our client has immediate access to installation data both real-time and historically. They are able to follow the installation process closely, and it is easy to provide the stakeholders with exactly the information they need.

Integrated part of the equipment

DIAP has been made an integrated part of the equipment used for lifting nacelles, towers, and blades. DIAP collects data directly from the control system of the equipment and makes it possible for the client to ensure complete traceability of the installation process.


Compare installation processes

By making more use of the features provided by the DIAP system, the client will be able to compare installation processes more efficiently, perform root cause analysis and prevent failures from happening. This can help them increase safety and reduce our overall installation costs.
